I love to read.
I am Mrs Cox and one of my favourite books of all time is "The Hobbit". Yes, before Harry Potter there was Lord of the Rings and its prequel "The Hobbit". J.R.R Tolkein wrote The Hobbit for his children. The Lord of the Rings series was for older readers ( The Fellowship of the Ring; The Two Towers; and the Return of the King)

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
We have enjoyed our first Hobbit Day and it was wonderful. Plenty of Hobbit food, gingerbeer to wash it down and lots of bubbles to blow. The face painters worked tirelessly and created some truly scary creations. It is a pity I can't put the photos up of our amazing kids but they were splendidly attired and did us proud. Many thanks to their families for putting so much work into their costumes. Thanks also to Mrs Carmody for coming to the party helping the boys to make walking sticks, puppets, drawings and inspiring the boys creativity. Special thanks to Michael Taylor and the year 12 and year 7 boys who helped us with the fun games at the end of the day. The Rosy Posy's Bakery Shop was also real hit with delicious Arkenstone popcakes, mouth watering Hobbit feet, Gollum in a pond, and Gingerbeer cordial. Thanks to Gabrielle Irvin-Speck for her tireless help and to the Cornish family for their help in the shop. Mrs Honner prepared our hobbit names for the day and cut the cake and distributed it to the boys ready for recess. Special thanks go to the teachers who at the end of a very busy term rose to the challenge yet again.

This year we are celebrating the magnificence of J R R Tolkien's great story "The Hobbit."
The film will come out this year on December 14th and we will enjoy a Hobbit day on Wednesday 19th September on the last week of term three. The Junior Primary fence will become our own Hobbiton with banners from the Art department and Art Club and beautiful gardens in front of the Hobbit homes.
We can dress up as characters from the story. Fortunately there are many options. Check out the pages above "Characters from the story" to get an idea for your dressup on the day.You could be a Goblin, Gandalf the wizard, Bilbo Baggins the hobbit and hero of the story, Elves from Rivendell or Wood elves from Mirkwood forest, , Dwarves (13 of them Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur and Thorin Oakenshield their King), Smaug the dragon, Wolves, Trolls (Bert, William and Tom), Giant spiders, Giant eagles, and there are more. How old are Bilbo and Frodo this year?
“Determining the epoch of a Fifth Age is important for those who apply the Tolkien calendar to present dates. For example, Issue 42 of Mallorn,
the journal of The Tolkien Society (August 2004), carried a lengthy article analyzing Tolkien's works as well as his possible Theosophist beliefs, concluding that the Years of the Sun began on March 25, 10160 BC, the Second Age on December 26, 9564 BC, the Third Age on December 24, 6123 BC, and the Fourth Age on March 18, 3102 BC. On this scheme the Fifth Age is equivalent to the Anno
Dominisystem of dating.[4]”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Age
Bilbo was born 2833 in the Third age
Frodo was born 2968 in theThird age
If the Third age began 24/12/6123 BC how old are Bilbo and Frodo on September 22 this year?
